Beautiful Testimonies from some of our sponsors
Hassim’s village is very basic in terms of material goods and equipment. They live very hand to mouth and life can be challenging for them. However, the sense of community that Hassim’s village has is something we could all learn from. Their sense of sharing what little they have with one another is humbling. I have learnt so much from being a sponsor, it has been an eye opener for me on many levels.
I knew I wanted to meet Hassim and his family and so in February 2023 I travelled to Gambia to so as part of a wider holiday. Hassim is a quiet little boy, living with his brothers and sisters in the most basic of houses. His parents were very welcoming and I got to see the things that Hassim does at home and at school and how he lives his life. As a result of the sponsorship at Giving for Gambia, Hassim has his basic education paid for and has a bike that he can travel the distance to school on. I receive letters and photos from him and school reports on his progress. I enjoy writing to him and I think it is hugely important that you can form an understanding and get to know the child you sponsor and their wider family.
For me, it has really challenged my thinking around the positive impact we can have on the lives of our fellow humans. I would recommend anyone to sponsor a child as you will get so much more out of it than you may initially think.

We decided to sponsor a child through Giving for Gambia having spoken to Tracy about life in Banjul and how hard it is for families and for children to receive a proper education. Being a small charity makes it much more personal and we now sponsor a young boy called Ebrima. We were lucky enough to visit Gambia early last year and met the lovely lad and his family. We have seen firsthand how much our sponsorship helps. His mother is widowed and our support means Ebrima can access the education he so deserves. We have also decided to give additional support to his family by sending bags of rice several times a year. One bag of rice will feed his family for one month!! Receiving letters and photos from Ebrima and his family reinforces that this is such a worthwhile cause

This is the second year we have been sponsors for Giving for Gambia, it is extremely rewarding to see how much is achieved for the amount of money donated, to cover a student education for a year.
Through Giving for Gambia we have been able to build a relationship with our child and they send us their school reports and thank you letters to let us know how they are doing at school and home. It is wonderful to see how much their handwriting and English have improved during that year.
The children must attend all classes as their funding will be withdrawn if they don’t and the money donated goes to each child. We are hoping to continue our sponsorship in the years to come as we feel knowledge is one of the biggest gifts to give, to help a child grow up, and going forward in life
